Plot ~ A rich guy in northern Canada illegally imports a bunch of wild (some endangered) cats. However, one night there is a gas leakage nearby and a bonfire sparks the habitats where the cats are being kept on fire. A caracal named Zoë led the survivors (all except three) to safety. They now must brave the Canadian frontier. The story begins right after their escape.

Zoë shivered but pushed ahead against the cold, biting wind. "Come on," she called to the others. "We have to find shelter sooner or later. At least I hope." she muttered to herself, glancing around at the blinding blizzard which had started soon after the fire. She took three steps forward before bumping into something hard. A few scratches revealed it was a tree. "You can't see anything in this blasted blizzard!" she called. "Come help me dig a cave!" She started scrabbling at the snow around the tree, trying to make a hole to shelter in.
